“A house is a home when it shelters the body and comforts the soul.”
A shelter is a small building or covered place which is made to protect people from bad weather or danger. With the aim of having a better understanding of the theme “Shelter,” an academic activity was organized virtually related to the topic wherein the students learned about different types of houses that are built depending on the climate of that region. The students showcased a beautiful and colourful project with pictures of different types of houses and explained every house elaborately. Some of them included - Bhunga in Gujarat, Kath Kuni in Himachal, traditional houses in Kerala, etc. They learned that different houses are built as per the abundant availability of materials, physical characteristics, climatic conditions, culture, traditions, lifestyle, etc. In the end, to make their activity more exciting and interesting a surprise was planned by the teacher for the students to witness different types of houses virtually - like Bhungas, traditional houses that are unique to the Kutch region in Gujarat. Last but not the least, a virtual tour of Kerala showcased a traditional big house called the nalukettu having large verandahs and cattle shed were all part of the traditional nalukettu. Through these virtual tours, they observed the houses more keenly and gained more knowledge and information about their culture, lifestyle, tradition, etc.
