When students learn to write poetry, they gain the ability to illuminate those parts of the human experience that are otherwise difficult to define or describe. Young minds bloom in creative challenges. Students of Grade 5 were provided an opportunity to get their creative juices flowing as they were engaged in a Poetry Writing Session. A precursor discussion familiarized students with figurative languages, such as rhyme scheme, simile, metaphor, and personification. Our young poets were given a free hand at choosing the theme or topic of their poetry. Students loved it as they were energized by the myriad of possibilities and the total writing freedom. The activity affirmed the effort of the budding poets and encouraged them to string their thoughts into poetic pieces in the future as well.
