Addition is one of the four basic arithmetic operators without which one cannot imagine any calculation. It is one of the first math skills that children learn in their formative years. Learning of mathematics should not be limited to imparting only theoretical and factual knowledge. Keeping this in mind, we, at Presidium, introduced single-digit addition through concrete objects like pebbles, sticks, beads, etc. The students were able to add the numbers by using the concept of forward counting. Students observed that adding one or more to the current number of objects, the value of the number changes. They established a one-to-one correspondence by moving, touching, or pointing to each object that they counted as they said the corresponding number words.
